Scott Leady founded GML Specialties in his basement in Falcon Heights, MN, naming the company after his wife, Gail Mordaunt Leady. Initially, Scott designed and produced rotating tables for the State of Minnesota, turning his hobby into a business.

GML Incorporates as a contract manufacturer, supporting the computer industry in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Land was purchased in Vadnais Heights and GML broke ground on the 500 building, the first of the now three-building campus.

Growth Surge
Rising demand necessitated more manufacturing equipment and space. Innovize seized the opportunity to expand into the 450 building across the street.

Shifting Focus
With a medical device hub in the Twin Cities, GML strategically shifted to exclusively focus on medical products. Some of the first customers were local medical device companies.

Name Change
Combining “Innovate” and “Customize,” GML changed its name to Innovize. This new name better reflects the company’s role as a contract manufacturer of medical devices and component parts.

Growing Still
After leasing space in a neighboring building for a few years, Innovize purchased the 410 building, completing the current three-building campus.

As former owners John Leady and Dave Jessen prepared for retirement, Innovize was sold to Excel Scientific, a manufacturer of microplate sealing films and foils based in California.
